Officially the fellas hit 2 months on the 8th, but we didn’t have our checkup until today – hence the delay. Basically Dr. W said they’re perfect and gave them 3 vaccines – the oral polio vaccine and two shots each – Pentacil (which guards against menegitis and DTap) and Prevnar (guards against the rotavirus – nasty stomach bug). She also recommended a Vitamin D supplement for them twice a week during these winter months because they don’t get enough natural Vitamin D from the sun (helps the body to fix/absorb calcium – they don’t take enough formula to get it through that means).
Andres
- Weight: 12 lbs, 8 oz. (frankly I was surprised that’s all he weighs – seriously – he’s a backbreaker). 95th percentile. Up 3 pounds from his last visit!
- Height: 22 1/4 inches – 50th percentile (has grown 2 1/2 inches!)
- Head circumference: 15 1/2 cm. – 25th percentile (1 cm. growth).
He’s doing so much better with his reflux with the Zantac. Dr. W. suggested sticking with it for a while and then tapering off to once a day. Dr. W was also super-duper proud of our boy because he slept from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. only waking once at 4 for a quick feeding. Well done big boy!!
that’s right – I’m a good sleeper!
see a resemblance? emilia at the same age.
Javier
- Weight: 11 lbs, 8 oz. (exactly one pound less than A) – 50th percentile – up 3 lbs, 3 oz since his last visit.
- Height: 21 1/2 inches long – 25th percentile – grew 1 1/2 inches.
- Head circumference: 15 cm – 25th percentile – 3/4 cm growth.
Dr. Walker gave Javier a ‘stern’ talking-to and told him he needs to do better at his ‘job’ of sleeping so he can get as big as his brother. Of course she suggested that we let him ‘cry it out’ for up to 15 minutes at night but really, at 1 in the morning, who wants to hear that much crying?! We need to work on him sleeping for at least a 6 hour stretch at this point however. As she pointed out, it’s a marathon until these kids hit college, not a sprint! We also talked about our concern that J suffers from terrible reflux now like Andres did – wrote him a script for Zantac – slightly larger dose and take it 3 times a day instead of twice.
I don’t want to miss any of the action!
again – emilia at the same age… I think she and javier look a lot alike in these two pics.
Basically, both boys are doing terrific – hitting all the developmental milestones they should be. This is the age when they start to be a bit more fun – tracking things with their eyes, recognizing familiar faces, smiling, and the beginning of cooing. Delish. Makes the rough first six weeks worth it.
javier on the left, andres on the right. shirts courtesy of the Bug – did I mention – she’s a DOCTOR!!! GO BUGGIE!
andres on the left, javier on the right. I love this next series – big old nasty shadow and all.
and because no post would be complete without some pics of my first baby…
dress up continues to be pretty major around here.
the proud big sis.
