SB–Labor Day 2011

09_04_11_09

Over the Labor Day weekend we went to our usual haunt of Sunset Beach, NC – 10 miles from Ocean Isle.  We rented a house on the beach and stayed with Juan, Tania and their baby, Juan Andres.  We had a great time – plenty of space to spread out, a short walk along this footbridge to the beach, and beautiful weather.  The only downer was that Andres picked up a nasty virus that gave him 103 degree fevers and made him generally miserable.

a mother’s pride

This ranks right up there with that phone call we expect in the future… “Mama, Papa, I’ve been accepted to Harvard Med school.”

Just in time for the Redskins/Cowboys game tomorrow.  Hail! :)

bottom of the barrel

I’m embarrassed to post this, but I was the featured mom this week on a local ‘mom blog’ here in Charlotte.  I joked with LIsa (the author) that they were scraping the bottom of the barrel if they were interviewing me since I’m so not interesting, but she insisted.  If you’re interested in reading stuff you probably already know about me, click here.

quito–the wrap up

During our final week in Quito we crammed in the last few activities we absolutely couldn’t leave without doing.

We visited with good friends… the families of four of the k-las (Marcus’ crew of guys he’s been friends with since they were 5).  That’s a whole lot of kids!

the main event

I refuse to post any more pictures post-Quito-trip until I finish documenting this trip.  This means no beach pics, no birthday party pics, nothing, until this is done.

The main purpose of our trip (aside from this mama getting spoiled rotten with two full-time nannies, a 3 year old in an amazing summer camp 5 mornings a week, and a maid ensuring I wouldn’t have to cook/clean/do laundry/or pick up after myself (or anyone else), was to baptize the boys.  Emilia’s baptism was held in the same church just under 4 years ago.  The ceremony was lovely, and short (which is always a plus since it was 5 p.m…. a dangerous time of the day with babies), we were surrounded by loved ones, and had a fab party afterwards at home.  We were thrilled that all four godparents were able to make it as well (Andres’ godparents are ‘Tio Equis’ – Marcus’ brother, Eric, and my Tia Lo; Javier’s godparents are my Tio Andres and my Tia Marga).

the reception was held at my mom’s – these are the ‘recuerdos’ – essentially the ‘goody bag’ after the party.

first day of fours

09_06_11_04

Finally, FINALLY the day we’ve been waiting for since May arrived!  Emilia is in the 4 day 4s class and will be at St. John’s Tuesday thru Friday.  There are a lot of kids in her class so they are taking over two rooms, and have two teachers with an assistant.  She’s thrilled to be in class with several friends from last year (Jackson H., Lake, Elizabeth, Ray,Olivia), and sad that others have moved on (especially Jackson J. and Elliot).  As far as I gathered today was a good day – didn’t eat her hummus, but was super psyched that there are 3 pet fish in her class.

clearly the ‘first day photo shoot’ wasn’t going well.
