the 2 month update

1_2_11_02

Officially the fellas hit 2 months on the 8th, but we didn’t have our checkup until today – hence the delay.  Basically Dr. W said they’re perfect and gave them 3 vaccines – the oral polio vaccine and two shots each – Pentacil (which guards against menegitis and DTap) and Prevnar (guards against the rotavirus – nasty stomach bug).  She also recommended a Vitamin D supplement for them twice a week during these winter months because they don’t get enough natural Vitamin D from the sun (helps the body to fix/absorb calcium – they don’t take enough formula to get it through that means).

Andres

  • Weight: 12 lbs, 8 oz. (frankly I was surprised that’s all he weighs – seriously – he’s a backbreaker).  95th percentile. Up 3 pounds from his last visit!
  • Height: 22 1/4 inches – 50th percentile (has grown 2 1/2 inches!)
  • Head circumference: 15 1/2 cm. – 25th percentile (1 cm. growth).

He’s doing so much better with his reflux with the Zantac.  Dr. W. suggested sticking with it for a while and then tapering off to once a day. Dr. W was also super-duper proud of our boy because he slept from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. only waking once at 4 for a quick feeding.  Well done big boy!!

that’s right – I’m a good sleeper!

see a resemblance? emilia at the same age.

Javier

  • Weight: 11 lbs, 8 oz. (exactly one pound less than A) – 50th percentile – up 3 lbs, 3 oz since his last visit.
  • Height: 21 1/2 inches long – 25th percentile – grew 1 1/2 inches.
  • Head circumference: 15 cm – 25th percentile – 3/4 cm growth.

Dr. Walker gave Javier a ‘stern’ talking-to and told him he needs to do better at his ‘job’ of sleeping so he can get as big as his brother.  Of course she suggested that we let him ‘cry it out’ for up to 15 minutes at night but really, at 1 in the morning, who wants to hear that much crying?!  We need to work on him sleeping for at least a 6 hour stretch at this point however.  As she pointed out, it’s a marathon until these kids hit college, not a sprint!  We also talked about our concern that J suffers from terrible reflux now like Andres did – wrote him a script for Zantac – slightly larger dose and take it 3 times a day instead of twice.

I don’t want to miss any of the action!

again – emilia at the same age… I think she and javier look a lot alike in these two pics.

Basically, both boys are doing terrific – hitting all the developmental milestones they should be.  This is the age when they start to be a bit more fun – tracking things with their eyes, recognizing familiar faces, smiling, and the beginning of cooing.  Delish.  Makes the rough first six weeks worth it.

sNOw-my-goodness 2011

For the second time this winter the 704 got a good snowfall.  It started during the early morning hours and snowed pretty much through the afternoon.  In the morning the street kids met up in Ms. Kristi’s driveway to do a little sledding.  It took a 20 minute argument with tears, wailing, yelling, and the bribe of hot cocoa afterward in order to get Emilia to put on her snowpants and join her friends.  Clearly, she’s not a snow bunny, but a beach bum like her Mama.  Can’t say that I blame her.  In the end she played outside for an hour.  The boys stayed cozy and warm in the house with A in front of the fireplace.

emilia refused to sled down the hill, instead preferring to dig in the snow (as if it was sand).

navidad–the movie–part 2

So I l.o.v.e. my family and it was really sad that we were not planning on going up to DC this year to be with them for Christmas.  When Tia Marga (aka ‘the baby whisperer’) was here she really worked on convincing Marcus that we needed to travel for the holidays, and while there is something to be said about waking up in one’s own house on Christmas morning, as Marcus said, we travel at Christmas – it’s just what we do.  We would have been so sad without them on the 24th and it was the perfect opportunity for my dad to meet the boys and for us to see him on the 25th.  It was a whirlwind trip and poor Nana and Richard’s Christmas presents were left in Charlotte (oops!),  but well worth it.  The fam doted on the boys, Emilia got lots and LOTS of love and attention (no whining whatsoever!) and followed Nena around like her shadow.  We ate terrific food, laughed like crazy, and got to enjoy time together.  That is my bliss.

some favorite stills…

tia marga was in full effect and had all sorts of activities for emilia to do like this gingerbread house.  according to emi, she had a lot of ‘busy days’ at tia marga’s house.  one thing’s for sure – there was no whining!!!

not a great picture but had to document A and Jack working the Post crossword puzzle.

again, not a great picture, but had to document the annual girl’s trip to the ritz for drinks.  sure fire happy holidays!

so my mama and i.

marcus’ not-great-picture of the kids before church in their christmas outfits  – emilia’s dress from tia claudia/tio esteban and javier and andres in outfits nana brought them from italy.  they both wore their monogrammed bibs from anne and kate (though andres obviously isn’t wearing his in this picture). I promise javier didn’t have this look of terror on his face the whole day.

12_24_10 05

marga was such a trooper and doted on emi these days.  emilia followed her around ev.ery.where.  seriously.  I would have been SO annoyed if I was her, and maybe she was, but she never let it show.  gracias nena – see you in may!!

javier… meet javier!

christmas morning – emilia was completely overwhelmed by the number of presents.  seriously after opening tia marga’s (the first doll house) that was pretty much all she wanted to play with.  it took the rest of the day to open the rest of them.

navidad–the pre-show

Oh, how did I start the year this far behind! Yikes!!!

12_16_10 01

Emilia’s class had a little Christmas celebration the day before school let out.  They sang two songs (“Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”) and with the help of Ms. Paige told the Nativity story.  Sweet Sweet.

I love the look on emilia’s face in this picture as she’s staring at the jacksons (jackson j. in vest, jackson h. giving a bear hug).

and two videos from their ‘performance.’
